Australia has identified 113 animal species in need of "urgent help" after their populations and habitats have been destroyed by fire. Since September 2019, unprecedented fires have razed more than 27 million acres of land, resulting in the deaths of at least 1 billion animals. In January 2020, the Australian government pledged 50 million Australian dollars for the restoration of wildlife and habitat. This money will be spent on care, food and pest management programs.
