(.#174).- What would really happen in case of extraterrestrial invasion?
What would really happen in case of extraterrestrial invasion?
What would be the consequences of an extraterrestrial invasion for our dear blue planet? Experts are looking into the issue and outlining the most likely scenarios.
Would we face an extraterrestrial invasion worthy of a Hollywood movie ?
In movies, the arrival of hostile extraterrestrials in the Earth's atmosphere often results in a battle with the land coalition, which eventually repels them using all the artillery at its disposal.
But this very Hollywood conception of things is far from representing a plausible scenario according to the scientists and experts who have examined the question. After the consequences of a nuclear apocalypse, this time we are interested in extraterrestrials.
Professor Stephen Hawking asserts, for example, that our encounter with extraterrestrials would be anything but cordial, since the latter could consider us as vulgar bacteria.
The physicist Michio Kaku explains :
"If they're hostile, fighting them would come down to a face-to-face opponent between Bambi and Godzilla. Our military technology would be ineffective in the face of such advanced civilization. You can forget the Hollywood blockbusters. "
Ryan Sprague, author of many books on the subject, adds :
"The cinema has led us to believe that an extraterrestrial invasion would necessarily be catastrophic for humanity. That any advanced civilization would go on our planet to enslave us or eradicate us and take advantage of its resources. "
"I can obviously understand this pessimistic view, but for decades, many UFOs have been sighted on our planet, which leads me to believe that if the aliens wanted to do such a thing, they would have already done so. "
Could extraterrestrials reach Earth?
Robert Sheaffer, skeptical about UFOs, does not seem really concerned about an alien invasion :
"I fear both an alien invasion and a Zombie apocalypse. These two scenarios are totally improbable. "
"First of all, the invaders should find us. Knowing that they would probably be several light years away from our solar system, or even much further, finding and joining us would be far from simple. "
"Secondly, based on the fact that they have extremely advanced technology, fundamental physics requires enormous amounts of energy to be consumed to reach high speeds and to curb space cargo. "
"Even nuclear energy would be ineffective in such a case. And if they come with arms full of weapons and equipment, that would still be an extra burden. "
The threat of artificial intelligence
Michael Michaud, author of "Contact with Alien Civilizations: Our Hopes and Fears about Encountering Extraterrestrials", explains that UFO supporters have never been able to prove that they were extraterrestrial objects.
He also states that the assumption of aliens leaving their spacecraft would be extremely unlikely :
"Why would extraterrestrials go so far? If their technology allowed them to use interstellar flight, they would not need the Earth and its resources. "
"The most likely scenario would be the advent of an unmanned interstellar probe with extremely advanced artificial intelligence. As this type of machine does not carry biological entities on board, it does not need to be massive and can wait for the right moment to take action. "
Our microbes and bacteria would probably be our best allies
If the "War of the Worlds" finally took place, our microbes and bacteria would probably be our most effective defense according to Robert Sheaffer :
"Assuming they finally arrive on Earth and want to settle there, they should face a big problem. HG Wells had pinpointed something with his bellicose invaders killed by terrestrial microbes. Our bodies are home to all kinds of micro-organisms: bacteria, microbes, mites, etc.
He specifies :
"It is unlikely that our organisms survive in a totally foreign environment and populated with unknown parasites, different foods etc ... This same problem would also apply to extraterrestrials. "
A history of technology
Based on the history of human civilizations, Malcolm Robinson, founder of Strange Phenomena Investigations, fears for the future of our planet :
"When a technologically superior civilization encounters another less developed one, the latter is generally less dangerous. "
From there, should we worry about signals sent into space since 1962?
According to Michael Michaud, there is no reason to worry :
"The vast majority of signals emitted from Earth are too weak to reach another solar system. Today we use a different radio technology and less easily detectable. The most powerful message ever sent to Space was the work of Arecibo in 1974. "
Humanity should stand together
According to Ryan Sprague, in the event of an extraterrestrial invasion, humanity would be forced to unite to confront :
"I think an extraterrestrial invasion would unite humanity as much as it divide it. Science and religion would oppose, but would continue. "
"Our only hope would be to expand our knowledge and basic concepts to find a way to communicate with this advanced civilization. "
What if we were invaded by extraterrestrials without knowing it ?
Gabriel De la Torre, neuropsychologist at the University of Cadiz, thinks that such a case is plausible, but precise :
"I do not think we're a problem for the Universe, and that other people want to eradicate us. They are likely to observe us to better understand how we operate. "
"A furtive extraterrestrial invasion would be possible, but I do not think we would be able to notice it. We would not even be able to understand their strategy. They could even manipulate us with impunity "
According to the professor, this process would be gradual :
"They would operate in an extremely subtle way to change our consciousness and our conceptions. Until a more concrete approach is possible and allows them to enter into direct communication with us. "
"I do not think they would share codes, numbers, and images as we do. They would directly affect our consciousness to prepare the ground. "
Reasons to be optimistic
Malcolm Robinson, however, believes that contact with extraterrestrials could be beneficial :
"It would be informative and great. It could forever change our technology, medicine and our perception of the universe. I am looking forward to this day with the utmost impatience. "
Soyez donc rassurés, les scénarios des films catastrophe du type Mars Attacks et Independence Day ne sont pas les seuls envisagés… et envisageables.
