A photograph of a UFO that flew over Colares.
In 1977, the Brazilian island of Colares was visited by unknown flying objects for months. We see every day all kinds of craft of all sizes and all shapes, arriving from the north, from the sky or even leaving the water. As many as 35 Islanders are injured by the beams aimed at them by objects. The army intervenes, films, photographs, questions, the press is there. Finally, faced with the threat, all the inhabitants evacuated the Island. You've never heard of it ? Well, just read this file.
The events :
The events mainly focused on the city of Colares, about 2,000 inhabitants, on the island of the same name, which is in the State of Para, in the delta of the Amazon River on the northeast coast of Brazil. But the whole region was visited by the same phenomenon.
In August 1977 on Colares Island, a strange phenomenon began to occur, which natives called "Chupa-chupa". Strange light objects have appeared over a few cities in the region. These objects often projected thin rays, apparently of light, directed towards people. The affected people passed out and woke up with strange anemia. They testify that they felt as if part of their blood had been drawn by strange rays.
For example, fisherman Manoel Joäo de Oliveira Filho, 44, married and living at 64 Carneiro de Mendonça Street, strolled to the beach early in the morning with a few companions, before spending a day of sea fishing. Before they joined their boats, they saw - above the beach of Rio Novo - a shaped object "like an umbrella" stationary about 4 meters from the ground. From its lowest part, a bright white light was emitted. No noise was heard from where they were standing. The object then still silently moved toward Machadinho, turning off its light when it started to move away.
A 44-year-old carpenter named Joäo Dias Costa and a 54-year-old fisherman named Joäo Da Cruz Silva, both from the city of Colares, saw `` bright spheres '' and were very frightened because they they were close to sweeping their boats.
Another man from the city of Colares, Zarcarias Dos Santos Barata, 74, saw glowing balls for 2 nights. The first time, the object came from the direction of the county of Majajo, and quickly disappeared towards the interior of the Island of Colares. On the second night, another ball, blue in color, flew over the local soccer field. ‘’ She lit up all the trees around the field and then headed for the center of town, ‘’ said Sr Zacarias.
Senor Sebastiäo Vernek Miranda described his experience as follows:
‘’ I was there with my wife, Palmira, in front of the church on the seafront, when around 8pm we saw an intense orange light coming from the sea towards the city. As she approached, she rose, and then, moving quickly, disappeared towards the interior of the Island. "
Hairdresser Carlos Cardoso de Paula, 49, living at number 231 of the Travessa Deodora Da Fonseca, had an even closer encounter with "lights", as he reports himself:
‘’ Everyone was asleep except me. I was smoking a last cigarette when suddenly a ball of fire entered our house up near the gable. She started going around in the room and then came very close to my hammock. She went up the top of my right leg to my knee (without touching my skin). I watched with great curiosity as it moved to my other leg. So I started to feel weak and sleepy. My cigarette fell from my hand and I went out screaming. The fireball (ball) quickly disappeared and everyone woke up. I think she had searched for a vein in my body, but failed to do so. As her glow grew, did I feel some kind of heat coming from her?
UFO In Colares, seen up close :
The worker Raimundo Costa Leite, very well known in the city of Colares for his skill in repairing fishing nets, describes his own experience.
‘’ At around 4 am I went fishing with my boyfriend ‘’ Baixinho ’’ (Orivaldo Malaquias Pinheiro) off Cajueiro Beach. I remember that ‘’ Baixinho ’shouted regarde’ look! He's there '' and hugged, leaving me alone on the beach. The craft was the size and shape of a helicopter, making no noise, and was flying very high. I could have shot him, if I had had a gun with me. I was terrified when the machine emitted a kind of light beam down the beach. This light swept the ground, illuminating everything! It was a bluish light (a kind of "cold light"). It was quite easy for me to see it, because the craft had several small reddish lights under its front bulkhead. The craft seemed to be looking for something on the ground. I was afraid he might touch me and, despite my poor physical condition, I managed to run a long distance, and then "Baixinho" found me and helped me. The object had come from the direction of the sea and it was heading far into the interior part of the Island. "
In fact, so many people have reported being attacked by beams of light from small, medium or large UFOs in this area that only a few are mentioned here.
UFO in Mosqueiro, south of Colares.
On October 20, 1977, three women were struck on their breasts by the beams of light: "each of the three was struck with enormous nervous tension and an unknown sort of weariness" as if they were receiving electric shocks constant '' wrote a diary.
On the evening of October 29, 1977, Benedito Campos and his 17-year-old wife Silvia Mara were at their home, when ‘’ they spotted an oval and silvery object emitting a greenish beam like a lighthouse, towards the room where they were. Very surprised, they approached a small window and, when they were doing that, a ray was thrown through the window and directly reached Silvia, throwing her into a sort of trance. '' Silvia, who was then pregnant, passed out, whereupon 2 entities apparently entered the house carrying something resembling a golden torch and '' the beam struck Silvia again, this time in the left arm at wrist level. Her veins seemed to "lift" as if swollen from the beam hitting them. "
2nd photo of the same UFO in Mosqueiro.
Later, while visiting a neighbor, Benedito was also briefly paralyzed by a ray of light. Fearing the loss of the unborn baby, the husband and wife were transported at night by boat to the medical clinic of Mosqueiro, followed throughout the journey by the UFO who made no further attempt to harm them . They stayed there for 3 days, where the wife was able to recover, but Benedito ‘’ was in a state of severe depression for a few days, his motor functions disrupted and, according to his mother, ’crying frequently’ ’.
The activity of UFOs over Colares Island was so intense that people began to think that the "Chupa-chupas" were trying to establish some kind of contact with them. This was the opinion expressed by Sr. Raimundo Ferreira ‘’ ’Mimi’ ’Monteiro. He still thinks that gear comes from the seabed or some sort of underwater base located in Marajo County or possibly in the Caldeiräo region.

Alfredo Basto Filho, a former city mayor, confirmed this and said: oui ’yes, indeed I can tell you that there was not a moment of tranquility then. Population. The population was terrified by the ‘’ ’Chupa-chupa’ ’affair. I even managed to see in person ‘’ ’Mirota’ ’, one of the female radiation victims who was undergoing medical treatment at the health clinic.’ ’
The locals were so frightened that many of the women and children left the city. The men who remained lit fires to stand guard at night, also setting off fireworks and beating canisters whenever they saw the approach of the Chupa-chupas. Others shut themselves up in their homes for fear of the phenomenon. It was later mentioned that the more people made noise and fireworks to keep them away, the closer these devices came to them.
Wounded and dead
In November 1977, the doctor in charge of public health on the Island, Doctor Wellaide Cecim Carvalho, took care of around 35 people claiming to have been touched by the strange ray. The doctor took blood samples, and concluded that the victims suffered from generalized hyperemia, chronic superficial headaches, burns, intense fevers, nausea, tremors in the body, stiffness, asthenia, and had very small holes in the skin where they had been struck by the rays.

A doctor examines one of the residents of Colares injured by a UFO.
The doctor wrote: "All of them had suffered injuries to the face or chest area." The injuries resembling radiation damage, "started with intense reddening of the skin in the affected area. Later, the hair fell out and the skin turned black. There was no pain, only slight heat. Marks of small stings in the skin could also be noted. The victims were unrelated men and women of varying ages. "
In describing their experiences with these light beams, most of the victims claimed that they were "immediately immobilized, as if a very heavy weight were being pushed against their chest. The beam was about 7 or 8 centimeters in diameter and was white in color. He did not track them down but hit them suddenly. When they tried to shout no sound came out, but their eyes remained open. The beam was felt to be hot - almost as hot as a cigarette burn, "barely tolerable. After a few minutes, the light column slowly retracted and disappeared. ’’ Most of the symptoms usually disappeared after a week.
In Agulhas Fincadas, Mrs. Maria Lopes, resident of Vila Gorete, on the edge of the Rio Tapajos, in the neighborhood of Santarem (Para), recounts her case involving strange devices that absorb the energy of human beings, known as Chupa-Chupa. "I saw an object quietly settle in the bushes here nearby ... It had attacked two men and a woman, who had started to move with two fishermen," says Maria. Other locals were paralyzed while watching the scene and men were killed in identical circumstances. At the heart of each of the deceased were sets of small holes, like dozens of needles. "
Many were injured while trying to escape one of these strange objects. In many cases, the marks left by the rays on the victims' skin were marks that could have up to 8 small holes. In these occurrences, the name of Chupa-Chupa seemed quite appropriate since they had lost up to approximately 300ml of blood from these injuries.
This was the case for Claudomira, a resident of the Island of Colares. She claims that her family was already unable to sleep normally due to the fear of these devices. ‘’ In one of these days, after midnight, I woke up because of a strong flash, a sort of focused light green ray of light, which came down from the roof to my left chest. I tried to scream, but my voice didn't work. I felt a pleasant warmth ... Later, this beam of light diminished and I saw that I was burned. "
Claudomira said she saw an odd umbrella-like object from which a fair-skinned being with "eastern" eyes and large ears came out. According to her, the creature was dressed in a tight green garment and had had a kind of pistol in the hand, which emitted the light beam. At that time, Claudomira felt needle-like perforation on her breast. "
After that, I felt a migraine and great weakness, which left me prostrate for several days. The day after the event, she was directed to the town's health unit, where she was taken in charge by Dr. Wellaide Cecim Carvalho, who sent her to the Renato Chaves Medical Institute in Belem, for additional examinations. Her discomfort and constant migraines lasted for many days, followed by fatigue and weakness. Years later, Claudomira still does not feel completely recovered. "My health has never been the same since last night." She is not the only one to have experienced such a situation. An estimate says that thousands of people, also men, had suffered from Chupa-Chupa attacks in the years 1970 to 1980, and these incidents still occur today, although less frequently.
"The emotional and physical after-effects are very common in these cases," said Dr. Wellaide Cecim Carvalho, who took care of Claudomira. Although she was skeptical and first believed that the Chupa-Chupa stories were popular beliefs or witchcraft, Dr. Wellaide came to be convinced of the truth of the cases when she was faced with their increasing frequencies. ‘’ With the increase in the number of people injured, I have started to pay more attention to the existing damage. I have seen things that do not exist in my medical books, "she said. According to her, the victims of Chupa-Chupa presented the strangest burns, not like those caused by fire or hot water, as one might think, but very similar to those produced by cobalt radiation.
‘’ The damage changed over time. First it started with intense stiffness in the affected area. What is called hyperemia. Later, the skin in the affected area started to fall off (alopecia) and days later the skin peeled. '' In this period of development, '' said Dr. Wellaide, '' it was possible to note holes, similar to the punctures by needles. '' One of the most interesting cases she cared for was is produced with a lady who had heart problems. She arrived at the doctor's office very nervous and immediately she showed her left breast, on which there were 2 strange holes.
The burn .
She complained of nausea, shortness of breath and weakness, characteristic symptoms already known to people affected by the phenomenon. The doctor tried to calm her down and she went home. However, at around 3 p.m., however, Dr. Wellaide was called to the bedside of this woman, who had fallen very ill. Her whole body was still and she was having trouble breathing, but she had no fever or vomiting. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the doctor transported her to a hospital in Belem.
Hours later, she received medical papers and a death certificate from the Renato Chaves Medico-Legal Institute, which stated that a heart attack was the cause of death. The intriguing fact is that at no time did the doctors at Belem just mention the damage to his body and did not even say if they had done any supplement examinations.
Electricity :
Regarding the possible effects of UFOs on the electricity supply. Senor Geraldo Aranha de Oliveira of C.E.I.P.A. (Para power station) explained:
‘’ In 1977, the C.E.I.P.A. consisted of 3 Scania 125-kilowatt motors, providing lighting for the city from 6 p.m. to midnight. I don't remember seeing any UFO over the factory. I just remember that during this period a lot of lightning rods were burnt and sometimes also fuses. "
The air forces alerted :
COMAR (Regional Aero Commando, the regional command of the Brazilian Air Force), has arrived in Belem, and is carrying out a series of searches in the region, under the name of operation '' Prato '' (plate, or saucer ''). Captain Uyrangé Bolivar Soares Nogueira De Hollanda Lima led all operations in the region. During the investigations, the Air Force made 4 films and took hundreds of photographs of the flying saucers in the Marajo Basin. They have also been of great help to the population, providing the help of psychologists, to eliminate the panic that has gripped the whole region.
The rays of light from the machines have been described as being so bright that they resemble those used to light up sports stadiums at night. They've always been clearly defined, directed with perfect precision at all targets - homes, people, boats, trees, and even Brazilian Air Force helicopters deployed over the Island during the investigations. On one occasion, it was reported that one of these powerful beams forced one of the helicopters to land, however, the exact technical reason was not disclosed.
According to a statement by Senor Sebastiao V. Miranda, a former resident of Colares, "the Brazilian Air Force spent more than 35 days in the city, and installed various devices near Bacuri beach."
La Serora Alba Camara Vilhena, a married woman, living at 683 rue du 15 Novembre, added: '' In the Chupa-Chupa era everyone was too scared to sleep at night, and almost every evening we left to be with parents. On one occasion, some saw a machine. It was round, and very bright. Just then, an F.A.B (Brazilian Air Force) helicopter was almost flying towards our house. So we saw that the UFO was directing a very powerful beam straight towards the helicopter, forcing it to land on the airfield of Sao Pedro. It happened at around 8 p.m. "
Professor Raimundo Sebastiao Aranha said: À ’At that time I was in close contact with some of the Air Force investigations. They were looking for more information on the Chupa-chupa. ’’
He said that the Air Force brought masses of equipment, cars, helicopters, radio transmitters, cameras, telephoto lenses etc. He also remembers that in addition to recruits from the Air Force there was a whole group of officers and he felt like there was a stranger among them. The helicopters that appeared from time to time, bringing in materials and personnel, tried to hunt the UFOs, but without success. Indeed, on the contrary, it was the UFOs that chased them!
One night, several months later, on May 24, 1978, a journalist and a photographer, who had been sent to cover meetings with UFOs in the area, were in their cars, when despite the heavy rain, they were awakened '' by a powerful beam of light which - as incredible as it may seem - passed through the metal structure of the roof of the vehicle. '' Obviously, they jumped out of the car to see '' a light beam in the form of a tube , about 25 centimeters in diameter, which descended on the roof of the car and passed through the metal paneling. '' On other occasions, they managed to take numerous photographs which they claim that their newspaper later sold the negatives to "" a group of North Americans. ''
Another night, while trying to use their snapshot equipment, one of these UFOs "emitted a beam of light so vivid that it smashed the windshield" of their car.
Several newspapers have started to write that the alleged UFOs were weather balloons, or secret satellites, although there was no possible reason to believe that. Local authorities were naturally extremely angry about such articles. Eloi Santos, of the bullfighting enclosure council said:
‘’ There is no denying that Belem is a frightened city today. We are neither technicians nor want to discuss the authorities' conclusions. But we surprised them with statements from witnesses who saw lights crossing their roofs to penetrate their skin, drawing blood and leaving visible marks of stings and burns on their epidermis. ’’
SEQUELS:
During the Chupa-chupa wave, many "sighting sites" appeared like Pinheiro and Sao Bento in Maranhao State, Viseu and Bragança in Para State. Some sectors have indeed reached such a "level of saturation" that it was not uncommon, without a night, UFOs were observed.
One of the ‘’ UFO epicenters ’was north of Baia Do Sol County (Sun Bay) and there were direct effects on Mosqueiro Island. Mosqueiro is one of the most important of the Islands, and it is the largest of those belonging to the municipality of Belem.
The public's concern was immense, all the men gathering at night to organize a surveillance, with lights and fireworks, thus thinking of putting away the devices. But nothing seemed to stop UFO theft, not even the Air Force people with their cameras and cameras - let alone the presence of journalists from Estado Do Para.
There were frequent and regular sightings of large craft and flying probes or saucers, all performing incredible maneuvers over the county.
One widow of 61 years, Elisa Da Silva, living on Do Bacari street, was one of the witnesses of this year 1977. One night, from her house, she saw a flying saucer appear. Bright white light from small windows or openings on the top. Seen from below, she said, it looked quite dark and quite flat. She disappeared towards the South, in total silence.
According to the opinion of some of the members of GUA (Ufological Group of Amazon) based in Belem, there exists, or it existed for a considerable time, at a certain place under Baia Do Sol a hidden base used by extraterrestrial machines. Such an idea would explain the constancy for several years, unidentified flying objects above the region.
In 1981 a woman who had been exposed to UFO rays in Colares died, but it has not been clearly established that this death is clearly linked to the attack she suffered.
In 1986, not far from Colares, 2 people on Crab Island were discovered `` in a state of decomposition by heat '' at a time when there were numerous observations of fireballs in the sky, the cause of their death is "unknown" anyway. In the same area, at another time, a "fireball" seriously burned 3 men who were logging on Crab Island: One of them died. One of the 2 survivors, Edmundo, had open electrical burn wounds on the side of his chest, an almost perfect reproduction of the chest burn suffered by Jack Angel in Georgia in 1974.
In 1993, in Colares, again, a 32-year-old missionary and a 40-year-old housekeeper living on the Island were killed, a month apart, due to the close encounter with UFOs , according to ufologist Pratt, these women `` were burned on the throat and thorax, as were most of the other people the doctor treated. ''
Dixit Pratt: ‘’ I know of about 10 deaths that have something to do with close encounters with UFOs. ’’
According to the US Air Force, there has never been any evidence of the reality of UFOs or any indications of UFO-related dangers. According to the skeptics… according to the skeptics? In this case, skeptics never say anything like this. As for the general public, essentially, they have no knowledge of it.
