(.#C.002).- Sending malicious spam to Earth.
ET's are trying to hack us by sending malicious spam to Earth.
A recently published study examines the potential threats of receiving an alien message from the stars. Scientists say that the content of a potential alien message could be malicious in nature, which would cause many problems for our civilization.
Research suggests how humanity could protect itself from spam or malicious viruses from extraterrestrials.
As Michael Hippke of the Sonneberg Observatory in Germany explained and John G. Learned of the High Energy Physics Group at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Hawaii: “A complex message from space may require the use of computers to display, analyze and understand it. Such a message cannot be decontaminated with certainty and there remain technical risks which can constitute an existential threat. Complex messages should be destroyed in the event of a potential proven risk. ”
The recently released study clearly warns that if humans ever received a message from an alien civilization, besides the fact that it would be the most important event in human history, we would be in great danger.
The study published on arXiv and entitled “INTERSTELLAR COMMUNICATION. IX. DECONTAMINATION MESSAGE IS IMPOSSIBLE “analyzes the potential risk of extraterrestrial messages.
Hippke and Learned note in their study that there are "several possible threats from an alien message. At the most basic level, a message could represent a statement like "We are going to make your sun a supernova tomorrow". True or not, it could cause widespread panic. ”
“More concretely, a longer message could have a demoralizing cultural influence. For example, there is a debate as to whether the Roman Empire was destroyed by the Bible. We have now come to the conclusion that a relatively longer message can have a devastating long-term effect. ”
In their study, the multiple possibilities of a hypothetical contact with an extraterrestrial civilization are scrutinized in depth.
The study seeks to determine how humanity could protect itself from spam or malicious viruses which could come from the stars ... for example.
In an interview with Universe Today, Professor Learned said: “There is no reason to doubt their benevolence (for example, the alien is wise and kind due to the experience of their ancient civilization) . I find the analogy much more convincing with what we know from our history… Is there a society which had a good experience after having met a technologically advanced invader? Sure, it would go one way or the other, but I often think of the film Alien ... a credible notion in my eyes. "
‘’Scientists suggest that all potential extraterrestrial messages spotted by SETI are examined and "decontaminated", in order to avoid potential damage, because, as researchers point out, to eradicate an entire civilization, it would be much easier for extraterrestrials to send us a malicious message (virus) that an alien armada.’’
The study examines the various dangers that an extraterrestrial message could entail. As noted by Universe Today, beyond the likelihood that a message can convey false information designed to cause panic or self-destruction, there is also the possibility that it may contain viruses or other technical problems (that is, the format could cause our computers to crash).
Hippke and Learned assure that neutralizing a possible computer threat which could arrive in the form of a message coming from an extraterrestrial civilization with more advanced technology would be very difficult, so they recommend to be careful and to apply security measures to try to avoid bigger risks.
