(.#443).- We could have lived on Venus.
We could have lived on Venus.
Drastic climate changes, 700 million years ago, made the atmosphere of the planet Venus incredibly dense and hot, but before that, it could have been habitable. This is what simulations recently presented by NASA researchers suggest. Today, on the other hand, if we could land on Venus, we would land on an expanse of volcanoes and lava.
VENUS
Now very different from the Earth.
Today, it is impossible to imagine living on Venus. That would be the equivalent of burning hell for a human.
Presence of water: in the gaseous state only.
Atmospheric pressure: 93 bars.
Atmosphere: 95% CO2.
Average temperature: 470 degrees Celsius.
One year duration on Venus *: 225 terrestrial days.
* Year : period during which the planet performs a tour around the Sun.
Duration of a day on Venus *: 243 terrestrial days.
* Day : period during which the planet performs a turn on itself.
Formation of Venus, - 4.5 billion years :
The planet Venus would have quickly cooled (this cooling would have ended 4.2 billion years ago). Its atmosphere would have been dominated by CO2. During the next 3 billion years, this carbon dioxide could have been housed in silicate rocks, reproducing a climate similar to that of the Earth.
Important volcanic activity, - 750 million years :
This event would have changed the atmosphere of Venus. The carbon dioxide stored in the rocks has been released into the atmosphere in large quantities, favoring an extreme greenhouse effect.
The Magellan mission, 1989-1994 :
This NASA spacecraft made a precise map of the Venus surface. Thousands of volcanic buildings have been discovered, but very few impact craters, hinting that the current state of Venus' surface was young.
EARTH
Presence of water : in a gaseous, solid and liquid state.
Atmospheric pressure : 1 bar.
Atmosphere: 0.04% CO2.
Average temperature : 15 degrees Celsius.
Duration of a year on Earth : 365 days.
Duration of the day : 24 hours.
* Day : period during which the planet performs a turn on itself.
