What journalists experienced in Colares in 1977, Brazil.
FIRST CASES :
Note: Journalists from the Journal O. Estado do Para (This newspaper no longer appears).
The first reports of "vampire light" over Mosqueiro came from Tapiapanema, a small community in isolation on one of the arms of the Rio Pratiquara. Locals, mostly fishermen, began to experience terror after the experiences of some of their own reported:
‘’ It was late Saturday evening (Oct. 29, 1977). At Tapiapanema, Benedito Campos (24) and his wife Silvia Mara (17), were resting in a hammock after their work day, and they were alone. The rest of the people living in the house had gone to Mosqueiro, a small town 16 km away, accessible by boat. "
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. they spotted an oval, silvery object emitting a greenish beam like a flashlight, toward the room where they were. Filled with curiosity, they approached a small window and, as they did so, the beam entered through that window and directly onto Silvia, throwing her into a sort of trance or paralysis. Worried about his wife (she was pregnant) Benedito immediately tried to protect and move her, but she slowly collapsed on the floor.
But there was more than that in this story, Benedito indicates that two "people" then entered the house, carrying a golden object (like a flashlight) probing all the openings of the house, and the radius emitted by this object struck Silvia again, this time at the wrist of her left arm. Her veins appeared to "lift up" as if swollen from the beam hitting them. In great distress Benedito cried out for help. Benedito lifted it and carried it into the living room and hid it behind a partition.
At that time, his neighbor, José Do Nascimento Sobral, heard him scream and ran inside the house, with a hunting rifle, into the room where the two entities were located and he obviously managed to drive them out. (His immediate concern was how Benedito and his wife were, and therefore he did not actually see the departure of the entities).
Benedito and Silvia were transported to Sobral's house some 500 meters away. The two men, Benedito and Sobral tried to calm Silvia, fearing that she was on the verge of losing her baby, and while they were busy with this the UFO reappeared, this time flying very low. Benedito went towards the door to see him better and the ray then also struck him, paralyzing him for a moment, while Silvia was not touched by this second "attack", (see the article '' A woman attacked by a flying saucer: terror on the island of Mosqueiro. '' (In the Journal '' O Estado Do Para. '' November 1, 1977, page 7).
Benedito and his wife were immediately taken by their parents to the Mosqueiro medical clinic. They went there by boat in the middle of the night, and a UFO accompanied them throughout the journey. At one point during the trip the UFO projected a bright ray down on the river. According to the O Estado Do Para Journal, this was accompanied by enormous noise. The UFO then disappeared.
The couple stayed at the clinic for three days, receiving medical treatment. Silvia was soothed and calmed, and the loss of her baby was prevented. As for Benedito, he remained in a state of severe depression for a few days, his motor functions disrupted, and according to the account of his mother crying frequently. Hospital staff maintained great reservations about the case and only family members were allowed to see the couple. The O Estado Do Para Journal commented:
‘’ Doctors were reluctant to express an opinion on the matter. However, the morning of October 31 (yesterday) a blond man was at the clinic and asked that there be no discussion of the events. "
Silvia’s family members learned of the story and asked for assistance from the Mosqueiro police. Local official responsible, Orlando Pantoja, explained the difficulties of trying to take all measures against the "vampire light" and strange devices, and said that he would naturally send a "confidential" report. on the subject to the Central Staff of the Police in Belèm, to seek advice as to how to proceed in this kind of case.
Observations above Baia Do Sol. - Journalists on the UFO trail :
Later, from May 1977 until June of the following year in 1978, the second wave of UFOs occurred at Baia Do Sol.
The "Jornal do Para" sent a journalist, Biamir Siqueira and a photographer José Ribamar to cover the situation and a summary of their results was published in the newspaper during the days from June 25 to June 29 1978.
They later explained to UFO investigators in 1984:
‘’ We stayed in the inner areas of Para, studying for 41 days especially on Mosqueiro Island, and we saw several UFOs and managed to photograph them. At first nothing interesting had happened, but from the moment we put a red black and white stripe on the hood of our car, we were luckier in our observations. This question of the colored stripe was clarified to us by an acquaintance of ours who was then working with the teams of the Air Force who were studying the phenomenon. According to him, these colors had been seen on a number of UFOs. When we had our first encounter with a machine, we were in a car belonging to the editor of the Journal O Estado Do Para. I remember that Blamir and I had taken a short nap when we were suddenly awakened by an intense flash - going towards the grayish - of bluish light. We felt a powerful impact, as if there had been a force in this flash. We immediately got out of the car and saw a flying object over our heads. It must have been about 20m tall. So he turned off his beam and sped away. On this occasion, we were unable to take photographs, because we were in shock of surprise. "
‘’ On May 24, 1978, the incredible happened on the slopes of the beaches of Baia Do Sol. The night was dark, with no stars visible in the sky. At 2:00 am, while resting in their car away from the heavy rain, the journalists of the Estado Do Para were awakened by a powerful beam of light which - as incredible as it may seem - crossed the metal structure of the vehicle roof. Alarmed, they quickly got out of the car. Then, when they were a short distance from the car, they saw that a tube-like light beam about ten inches in diameter descended from above on the roof of the car and passed through the metal paneling. All of this continued for about two minutes. When they started taking photographs, the craft that emitted the light beams and floated silent and stationary in the sky, immediately lit all the treetops in the surrounding area. "
‘’ We managed to photograph the UFOs another night. I think in all, these night watches, we managed to take more than 200 photos. For starters, we lost a lot of pictures. We used a very high sensitivity film, and a Nikon camera with a telephoto lens. I didn't keep any of these photos, and later, on orders from the Journal office, the entire collection of our photos was sold to a North American group - I don't know how much. "
‘’ Very curious things happened during these watches. At first, the machines appeared at night, the high tides. Their arrival was announced by repeated flashes, on average from 7 to 9. By this time, we were starting to feel very sleepy, and in particular I started to feel some sort of nausea. Shortly after, the craft began to appear. We’ve never heard the slightest sound from them during their maneuvers in the sky, which were usually very fast. ’’
A testimony given by the journalist Blamir Siqueira confirms the stories of Ribamar :
‘’ One of the features that immediately aroused my curiosity was the light signals announcing the arrival of the craft. These light beams crossed the sky horizontally and were repeated between 7 and 9 times, during an interval of 10 to 45 seconds. UFOs have always appeared with precision from this direction (from the North). "
'' In particular, I am convinced that the purpose of the light beams was to prepare the route for the main ship, and the main ship never produced any noise during its passage - as if these `` flashes '' were designed can -to be to sweep all the existing material along the planned trajectory of the machine. ''
‘’ We saw the motherships several times, and some of them had a row of lighted windows. The smaller craft came out of them through a sort of thingypit that opened into the lower part of the larger craft. "
In addition to the intense glare of the machines, another interesting detail was the fact that it was impossible to use a flash to photograph them - we had been informed of this by a colleague of the Army of the Air.''
