Nick Pope said that contrary to what ufologists think no plan is provided in case of meeting with visitors from another world.
To clarify, SETI's post-detection policy (its "Statement of Principles" document and related material) could be considered a plan, but of course it applies only to the detection of signals and not at a real arrival.

With the discovery of seven new exoplanets in orbit around their own star, it seems a little more likely that aliens are visiting Earth at some point.
At least that's what Nick Pope says - who was in charge of the government's UFO project between 1991 and 1994.
Nick Pope is one of the world's leading experts on UFOs, conspiracy theories and the unexplained.
As part of a long career at the Ministry of Defense, he spent four years leading the government's UFO department, preparing for a possible invasion - or friendly visit - of our celestial neighbors.
So, after all this time, what is the government's plan?
- There is no plan.
…Oh.
There is no emergency plan as far as I know, he told Metro.co.uk. "The government's response would be that," We consider this an incredibly small possibility.
"But I would say, why not have a plan if there is even the smallest possibility of it happening.

While this may be alarming for some, Pope said an extraterrestrial visit would not really look like the "war of the worlds" we expect.
Instead, according to him, it would be more like Arrival (1st Contact) - which comes out on DVD on March 20th - in which each country brings together a team of scientists, cultural academics and military experts to try to communicate with the new species.
Especially because, since they managed to visit the Earth successfully, they would probably already have several thousand years of technological advance over us.
But this, in turn, could lead to some international conflicts, at least in the short term. Pope said, "There would be a fight for foreign technology, and weapons. Some of the big nations - and, right now, the companies - would fight to get their hands on foreign technology. "The country that gets this [technology] would be the world leader for the foreseeable future."
Although he went on to say that, in the long run, we would all come close to it.
"In the end, this [foreign visit] could have a unifying effect," said Pope.
"An extraterrestrial arrival could convince us that there are more things that unite us than things that separate us.
So, as world leaders push their elites forward, what is the best thing for normal people like us?
"First, and it's a cliché, but do not panic," warns Pope.
'Do not start running to the hills or shooting at alien ships. Wait for the finest minds on the planet to understand what it is.
At the same time, it never hurts to get insurance. David King, of Budget Insurance, told Metro.co.uk that they are starting a waiting list for a policy that covers alien invasions.
"To be cautious, we are opening a waiting list for customers who would be eager to remove an anti-alien damage coverage if necessary," he said.
And "do not shoot at foreign ships" is especially important, he said, because we might one day need to leave the planet ourselves - and we could do it with some advice.
"One day, we will have to move forward, so it would be good to have help from the extraterrestrials," he said.
"At the moment, we are confined to Earth, but we hope that one day we will have the technology that will take us to the stars.
So, our best plan is: to calm down, to befriend aliens, to steal their technology when they are not watching.
That seems good to us.
