On May 26, 2019, the New York Times published an article on five US Navy pilots reporting UFO sightings in 2014 and 2015 off the coast of Florida. The story quotes their descriptions of unknown craft that could fly at hypersonic speeds and fly over the ocean. Their reports were forwarded to the Pentagon's Advanced Air Threat Identification Program (AATIP).
The five Navy pilots were interviewed by New York Times reporters about UFO sightings while conducting training exercises around the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt prior to their deployment in the Middle East. Times reporters said that because of the 2014 and 2015 sightings, the Navy had improved its classified guidance on how pilots should report UFOs, which are now officially known as Unexplained Flight Phenomena.
A video of one of the UFO incidents where pilots could be heard exclaimed, "Wow, what is it, man? Watch it fly!
